Seems a shame to sully this category with such drivel as performance art but Yin Mei's inky self belongs nowhere else. The finished product is superfluous: "The painting itself is not about the painting." Fair enough. Unfortunately the process leaves behind a tripping hazard in the form of a 100' scroll. And the best that can be said about the process, i.e. the art itself, is tedious. I was quite sad when eight minutes into her excruiatingly slow roll across the paper the cricket soundtrack cut out.
With no sense of irony, the school paper reported: "The overall goal of her art, Yin said, is to unite the past and the present. The photographs on display represent her past and are brought into modern day simply by being in the exhibit."
Although a Bah-Humbug is unseasonable, it's well deserved.
